OLI, a global leader in electrolyte chemistry modeling, has entered into a formal collaboration with Heriot-Watt University (HWU), one of the world’s leading institutions for upstream oil & gas and geothermal research. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and supporting industry through practical, research-informed solutions.
This collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between OLI and HWU’s Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering and its Flow Assurance and Scale Team (FAST), globally recognized for its applied research and technical depth. Through the agreement, HWU gains access to OLI’s solutions and subject matter expertise, supporting both academic development and practical real-world problem-solving. To ensure this access translates into everyday impact, OLI will provide software licenses, training and support so that all research students and staff associated with FAST can routinely use OLI software in their research activities.
As part of the agreement, OLI will also participate in FAST’s Joint Industry Project (JIP) meetings, reinforcing engagement with key clients and staying closely involved in research discussions that shape the future of scale and flow assurance. This helps ensure OLI’s solutions remain aligned with the technical needs of field and design teams working in complex environments.
The collaboration creates a structured channel for applied research and industry practice to inform one another. It reflects OLI’s focus on long-term capability building through direct engagement with scientific and technical communities.
“Our collaboration with HWU reflects a broader strategy to remain deeply involved in the scientific conversation and support the advancement of technical excellence,” said Giulia Ness, Senior Solution Architect at OLI. “We’re proud to play a role in shaping the next generation of expertise while staying connected to the frontier of applied research.”
This agreement is part of OLI’s continuing effort to deepen engagement with institutions that value technical rigor and long-term industry relevance. As the demands on flow assurance evolve, OLI remains focused on enabling those addressing complex operational and research challenges with the necessary tools and knowledge. The agreement opens the door to further academic and industry exchange, reinforcing OLI’s long-term commitment to supporting innovation through collaboration. It increases the potential to unlock new insights and accelerate innovation across key energy and sustainability sectors.
